c. benefit a species
d. share knowledge of a world issue
e. improves life for than me
Blog Purpose: To share with others and have an obligatory reason to perform the task
First week:
Purchased a reusable shopping bag
It's bright green with Tweety bird on one side and Bugs Bunny on the other and comes from Safeway. I didn't get as much resistance from Mark when I set it on the counter as I thought I would. It could be because plastic grocery bags are slowly, but surely, taking over the house. We have two home made bag holders hanging in the laundry room, they're each three-feet long and bursting from both ends. In the kitchen, one of our bottom cupboards is half-full with bags, crammed on top of cereal, crackers, and cup-a-noodle soup. This is repeated in both our bathrooms, and unfortunately, in the small bathroom you can no longer open the cupboard without having a snake-in-the-can experience. I have always assuaged my guilt of plastic grocery bags by insisting that we reuse them. They act as trashbags for all the small cans in the house and most importantly, they are the receptacles for the excrement of three pugs with very healthy digestive systems. I think though, that the bags have started breeding on their own, and it is time to put a stop to my contribution to landfills in that department... or at least my cupboards.
Checked all the light bulbs in the house to assure they are the new and environmentally friendly ones
There are exactly 60 lightbulbs on the inside and outside of my house. 4 of them are flourescents. 9 are specialty bulbs in strip lighting. 4 are security lights. And 3, 3! are rejects from the past that just have not died yet, but the only thing to replace them with are the new enviro-friendly ones.
Signed a petition to end the international trade of polar bear parts
This one is pretty straight forward. If you're interested, they are at about a fourth of the forty-thousand signatures needed. The conference to address this issue will be held this March in Qatar.
